The ESS industry hasn’t innovated in years

Homeowners today are seeking more efficient ways to power their homes than the grid, and that comes with higher expectations. Any system providing energy to the home has to provide power around the clock, on its own, and cheaply, or why even take themselves off the grid?

Paladin exceeds those expectations. While numerous devices on the market promise to power consumers’ appliances, even during a blackout, Paladin actually can with output of 80 amps versus the competition’s 20 amps, 21 KW continuous power versus 10KW, and 38KW surge versus 10KW surge. Plus, they are expensive, usually aren’t green, and are not truly self-sustaining like solar.

Consumers prefer things that don’t directly require their interference, like solar, because it actively saves them money, provides power to the home 24/7, is green and doesn’t require them to continually refuel like a generator. That means consumers are increasingly needing a way to store all that solar energy they’re buying, and that’s why the energy storage system industry is valuable. The only issue is that consumers are quickly learning how many makers are claiming to power the entire home through one unit, though it is simply not true. In the event of a blackout, they are left partially or completely without power.

From the small household appliances, such as refrigerators and microwaves, to larger ones like air conditioning systems – energy is a crucial part of modern-day households. To maintain complete energy use within the home without sacrificing any comfort in their home, homeowners need units that have a robust output so they’re not left without power, ever.

For example, the greatest issue homeowners will face is A/C power consumption.

Customers Need More Power
  1. Powering A/C units

Air conditioning units are the most energy-consuming components in a modern household. The amount of energy an A/C unit consumes depends on its size, age, and how often it is used. An air conditioner that is too small for the space it is cooling will have to work much harder than one that is appropriately sized, resulting in more power draw. Due to outdated technology and materials, older A/C units also use more energy than newer models. Additionally, air conditioners that are on 24/7 cause an increase in electricity consumption as well.

Because of all these factors, most ESSs cannot power customers’ entire homes with just one unit, so customers end up having to buy multiple units to keep up with their consumption.

Sometimes though, the problem isn’t even running the technology, it’s even getting them to start.

  2. Surge

Homeowners who want their technology to run whether it’s A/C units, washing machines, or computers need a reliable power source that can provide enough wattage to allow it to start. Usually this requires at least 2,000 watts and can go as high as 15,000 watts depending on the size of the unit. An intermittent surge of greater than 2,000 watts for several minutes would meet the starting criteria during the startup phase. This load should still be within the A/C compressor’s running load specification that should remain steady at lower levels once the compressor is running.

Yet, most ESSs cannot give enough surge to power and start these machines. Leaving customers unable to live out their daily functions, unless they buy multiple units or a generator, sound familiar?

  3. Charging and output

Energy storage systems are essential for powering homes and businesses off-grid. Because of their necessity, energy storage systems are becoming increasingly popular, especially given the advancements in technology and increasing affordability. But, customers are increasingly running into a common limitation of many of these energy storage systems as the average person’s power draw increases, and that is most ESSs are unable to output more than 20 amps and 10KW.

10KW might be fine for occasional tv, a light bulb or two, maybe a power tool, but it simply won’t cut it if you want to power several high-draw appliances like ovens, washing machines and especially air conditioners. The power draw effect is even stronger in larger spaces, so bigger homes need even more output from their ESS. Many learn they need multiple energy storage systems just to keep up with the output of their home, not even to mention whether or not there’s even enough energy storage!

Modern homeowners that are truly off-grid require a minimum current capacity that far exceeds the 10 KW provided by most common energy storage systems. Otherwise, homeowners’ homes and buildings’ light bulbs will be lit, but that’s about it!

Along with the 10KW of output comes another problem, 20 amps or less of energy output. 20 amps is simply not enough to charge an EV which solar installers usually have to install extra units for their clients, you already know they’re not willing to wait two or three days for a full charge! How are they supposed to use their electric vehicles otherwise?

That is unless they’re willing to buy more units and a generator or use.

It's Time for a Change

Did you notice the pattern? The ESS industry does not rely solely on one unit but instead grifts customers with multiple products that are only partly effective. To be the solar installer that stands apart from the pack, you must give your customers more.

As a team with experience in electrical engineering, we understand what it’s like when you have to give customers overly expensive equipment which is tedious even for you to install. Customers shouldn’t wait 2 or 3 days for their ESS to be installed and their EV to charge. It’s simply not possible to use an EV as a daily driver at that point.

That’s why we began researching and came up with the obvious solution, an energy storage system that can be installed in less than 30 minutes and power the entire home, all in one unit.
